Multiple Slerosis

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a disabling autoimmune disease that impacts the central nervous system (CNS) including the brain, spinal cord and optic nerve causing damage to myelin, the protective sheath insulating our nerve fibers. Therefore, disrupting signals to and from the brain. Many patients experience a relapsing and remitting form of the disease. 

Signs and symptoms of Multiple Sclerosis vary widely and depend on the amount of nerve damage and which specific nerves are affected. Multiple Sclerosis can affect vision, sensation, coordination, movement, and bladder and bowel control. 

Types of Multiple Sclerosis:

1.  Clinically Isolated Syndrome (CIS)

2. Relapsing-remitting MS (RRMS)

3. Secondary progressive MS (SPMS)

4. Primary progressive MS (PPMS)

Signs and symptoms: 

• Numbness or weakness in one or more limbs 
• Electric-shock or tingling sensations may occur with certain movements
• Tremor, lack of coordination or unsteady gait
• Partial or complete loss of vision, often with pain during eye movement
• Double vision
• Blurry vision
• Slurred speech
• Fatigue
• Dizziness
• Issues with sexual, bowel and bladder function
